Help Us!

Help THE Mission win a grant to help continuing to strengthen families and communities by voting for us at Giving of Life!

What can $1 do?  In the US we know that $1 doesn’t go very far.  However, that’s not true in other countries, especially Haiti. US currency is worth much more than the currency in Haiti. So how far can $1 go?

In Haiti:

$1 covers a day of school

$1 buys a cinder block for a home or school

$1 pays for dinner for a family

Your $1 can change a life.

  • We have begun a scholarship campaign for children in the Bercy, Cabaret community to attend the school across from the Cabaret Baptist Children’s Home.  School starts next week and we still have more students waiting and wanting to go to school. This year, through sponsors we were able to give 31 students scholarships to attend school!  The scholarship is $150 and covers school tuition, books, uniforms and lunch for the year.  If you are interested in providing a scholarship you can donate online here.  You are welcome at any time to donate towards misc. education costs they incur at the school throughout the year.
  • The older students at the chidren’s home used to have to travel to go to school but are now going to school with the younger students in the neighborhood.  They are currently meeting in a pavilion so we are raising money to build them a classroom.  Cinder blocks are $1 each so if you would like to donate towards that or do a “block fundraiser” then let us know. We are creating a page on T.H.E. Mission Haiti website now that will have blocks with donors names on them.

If you are interested in helping, find a creative way to save a $1 a day for a determined amount of time (week, month, year).

Here are some ideas for our $1 a Day Campaign:

1.  Pay with bills and keep all loose change.  Collect it for the amount of time you determined and then donate it.

2.  Pay with larger bills and keep a $1 bill each day (or all the $1s).

3.  Sacrifice or down size something and keep the money you would have used somewhere you can look at it every day and add to it.  Instead of ordering a soda, get water.  Instead of a specialty coffee go with regular and add flavored creamer.  Use coupons if your normally don’t and put the savings  in your jar/container.

4.  Sell something on Craigslist, Ebay or at a yard sale.

5.  Offer to do something that you are good at for a few bucks like edit a photo, create a slideshow, clean a car.

There are so many ways we can all save a $1 here and there.  Haiti needs help, $1 at a time.  Will you help?

Christa and Charity want to thank Pastors Peter and Betty Burnett of Port Charlotte International Church for allowing them to speak at their church last Sunday about the good things that God is doing in Haiti!

April Trip

Back from a quick trip to Haiti with Christa where we checked in on both projects and friends. What a pleasure to have Becca Janiak join us and to stay with Isnel Abraham and his precious family. While we were there we were able to distribute clothes to more than sixty children in a local village and deliver supplies to new mothers. We also were presented with some new and exciting potential opportunities that we are praying and thinking about. Thanks to everyone who sent supplies or gave to make this possible! Find us on Facebook for pictures of the trip.

T.H.E Mission’s next trip will take place May 2 to May 8 in Bercy, Cabaret. If you are interested in joining us, email Charity@themissionhaiti.com.
